First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to CIO-AMAGE for the support they had given me and for all the efforts done in order to keep the Nihongo sessions going. Though I’m still a newbie in the field of teaching and knowing that I don’t even have enough credentials yet, but still they treated me with much respect and how much I really appreciated it. CIO-AMAGE is more like a family to me now. I’ve never felt so much appreciated before… they gave me more inspiration and developed my passion for teaching. I’m glad that CIO-AMAGE offered an opportunity for those who want to study the Japanese language by opening a class or a study group to cater their interest in the language. And I’m glad that they gave me this chance to offer my service to them especially to those who have the passion in learning the Japanese language. With all these, I’m hoping for more fruitful years of friendship and unity with the team.
It has been 8 weeks already since the lessons first started. It was on May 23, 2009, where we held the first session at Redvill’s home in Tisa, Labangon and it we started out just fine. But normal as we are, we also encountered some problems. May 30, 2009, we had to postpone the lessons because of the occurrence of an unpredictably heavy rain. To make everything smooth and convenient for the succeeding lessons, the officers decided to look for a fixed venue. And then it was on June 6, 2009, when we had our lessons temporarily at Mikare’s house in Banawa, the officers and some other participants decided to have the fixed venue at Club Ultima. On June, 13 2009, classes was held in the latest venue at Club Ultima’s meeting room and everything went well especially that the venue is already accommodating where there is enough space for everyone, and a white board available to work with, and it was fully air-conditioned. Organized by CIO-AMAGE and the expense for the venue was contributed by the participants.
When school began in the mid of June, gradually, it became difficult for some of the participants to attend the Nihongo sessions due to school activities and some have school on a Saturday because most of the participants are still students. They come whenever they’re free and excuse themselves whenever they can’t make it. Absences became frequent. And this is problematic to the part of the organizers and officers, to the teacher, and to the remaining participants as well.
This problem brought us to the effect such as; 1) Delay in the lessons. It was difficult for the teacher to adjust whether to give them a chance to catch up or not, because this can also be unfair to those who are consistent in class especially to those who are eager to go for the next lessons. 2) Deficit of funds for the venue. Since there are times that they are only a few attendees that the officers would sometimes shelter for the payment of the venue.
Naturally, we may get disappointed about what had happened in the matter of receiving withdrawals and frequency of absences, but there’s nothing that we can do about the decisions of others. We respect their decisions. And if ever they plan to join again, they will always be welcomed. They were an important part of the class. And what matters most is that the friendship we had will not only be limited inside the walls of the classroom but this friendship will always be as it is wherever we go… until we meet again.
In behalf of the Nihongo committee, sadly but there’s nothing we can do but to end Nihongo Lessons Batch 1. I asked for apologies, to CIO-AMAGE and especially to the remaining participants of Batch 1, for not being able to meet up with your expectations. Just as what life is, as human as we are, we sometimes fail and make mistakes. As what William Connor Magee quoted, “The man who makes no mistakes does not usually make anything.“ From the mistakes we made and with all the problems that we’ve encountered, was not really a problem at all. But instead, these brought us to new ideas for improvements. Everything happens for a reason. What had happened will serve as instruments for us to become better… and lead us to ways of becoming stronger.
Whatever happens ahead of us, never will it be a hindrance for us to grow. If we fall, then we should stand again as a whole new being. The lessons shall continue… with a whole new batch, especially with the coming of a new teacher. Cabs-sensei will also be teaching with me, he who came at the right time and that it gave me more hope in bringing back the class once more. There’s going to be a new system to comply and new adjustments to deal with. We are hoping that with the new improvements which we will soon be having would finally fill up the missing holes that once we forgot to mind at.
Once again, I humbly asked for everyone to support. Let’s help building each other up, keep our lessons going, keeping our friendship and unity stronger, making our community bigger, and let us become a great team.
Moving on… all set and ready for a new beginning.

Hello, everyone this is Seishi with updates for our dearly beloved Cebu Integrated Organization of Anime Manga and Games Enthusiasts. Hehehe, kumpleto jud no?
Anyway, updates on our forums. Our CIO-AMAGE website is now up thanks to the efforts of PJ, whose Yahoo! ID is banehallow2. For now, we are using a free account because we don't have the funds to do maintain paid hosting, but it would've been worth the expense. Because of that, we have a limitation to our forums: registered users do not receive confirmation emails for their registration, hence there is the need for the site admin (me, in this instance) to manually approve the registration on the users' behalf. While this is not a problem (officers, you need to become admins together with me so YM me, i'll give you the username and pass), it can be time consuming.
According to the PJ, that's about the only problem we have with the site.
Good news! We have decided to push through with the planned J-music Festival, which has a tentative date somewhere in September. Clearly, it would be a Saturday so that everyone can be available. Now, I need your suggestions? What time should the event start and what time should it end? I'm asking this because we have different age groups in this organization and clearly some of you would be adhering to strict curfews that limit the hours of your participation. Make suggestions through the comments, and then soon we shall have a poll to see which is the most popular choice.
Minna-san, your inputs will be crucial for the selection of venues, as some places are available on hours like 3pm-11pm. Arigatou!
The Nihongo lesson last Saturday was a great success. It was really fun especially that almost everybody was there, and surprisingly 13 and Seishi were both there present as well. The venue at Club Ultima Tower, was just fine and enough to accommodate everyone that the officers approved it to be the final fixed venue for the succeeding lessons.
So far we already covered up three chapters. Lessons on the “S wa O desu” pattern, adjectives and its conjugations, kore/sore/are. There won’t be any meeting on June 20, 2009 so we could participate in the coming Hobcon event at Parkmall. Classes will resume on June 27, 2009.

Konnichiwa Minasan. Last Saturday’s Nihongo session went well with our gratitude to our host, Mikare. After the lessons that Saturday, some officers and some other participants had a meeting. We agreed on to move on to our fixed venue for the succeeding Nihongo sessions starting this Saturday June 13, 2009.
There will be an extension of an hour to our session to make the lessons more efficient. There will also be a contribution for the venue PHP40.00. (This is already inclusive of the payment for the study notes and the materials to be used in the lessons)
The Final Fixed Venue for Nihongo Lessons Starting this coming Saturday June 13, 2009 will be at ClubUltimaTower, Fuente Osmeña, CebuCity (a building away from the Robinsons Place Cebu).
Here are pictures of the venue:
There will be a meet up at Robinsons. By the entrance, outside Jollibee, and outside Bench Shop. Meet up time at 1:30-2:30pm. (No one needs pictures of that, right? - seishi)
Class starts at 3pm and ends at 5pm. (2hr lesson)
Note: The availability of chairs is limited to 10 only. First come First serve! The early bird gets the best chair!! (^___^) (Personally, I don't mind standing..... - Seishi)
Minasan, let’s do our best to make this successful! (This one I agree with. - Seishi)
Since the Cebu Integrated Organization of Anime Manga and Games Enthusiasts is on full thrust since it was officially launched last April 25, I think it is deserving now that I release an official statement on what the organization is all about as envisioned by our main founder, Ren13.
It has also come to light that I think several people are confused about what the organization is all about, hence I have thought of finally releasing an official statement to clear out the cobwebs for all members.
First of all, CIO-AMAGE is at its core an network of organizations. Ren13 envisioned a unified community of Otakus (anime lovers) as well as gamers since Otakuism and gaming come close hand in hand in most cases. Since it is a network, CIO-AMAGE aims to bring together all existing organizations in Cebu that are related to the Japanese culture in general.
One unique feature of this organization is that all affiliate organizations retain their autonomy. Assimilation is not a goal for CIO-AMAGE. The Cebu Cosplayers Club, for example, will still be known as CCC and considered as an affiliate organization supporting the CIO-AMAGE network. It is independent and autonomous to organize its own events, but this time with the support of CIO-AMAGE.
As a network of organizations, we automatically consider the members of any affiliate club as part of CIO-AMAGE. That's the reason why CIO-AMAGE had been chosen by those that voted and were considered by the 3 founders for votation: its name clearly encompasses the vision that Ren13 had originally for the group.
The real goal for CIO-AMAGE is the integration of all anime and Japanese related groups into an organized network that provides support to each other during activities and events. That way, we can present a united front for otakus. One vision of CIO-AMAGE is to allow the anime community in Cebu to present itself to society and not remain an underground presence. It can be hard, but things are looking up at this point. All we really need is your participation and cooperation.
The rules for CIO-AMAGE are simple. First, there should be mutual respect for the privacy and character of every member. Behavior such as stalking or unwarranted solicitation of personal information despite refusal of the other is considered an offense. Second, attempts to elicit conflict within the affiliate organizations is also a big no-no for CIO-AMAGE. The goal after all is integration; trying to split us up, of course, is a major offense.
Third, and last, if you have any suggestions for the organization, try to contact any of the 3 co-founders of CIO-AMAGE instead of blurting such suggestions out in conferences. This is to allow smooth facilitation of your suggestions and avoid arguments in which the merits of your proposal might get buried in the conversations.
Although we have no real punishments for these offenses (as of now), we expect everyone to adhere to these simple guidelines. Failure to do so repeatedly will result to being banned from updates and being unable to participate in any activity.
This statement has been issued on behalf of Ren13, whose original vision it was that resulted into this dream turning into a reality. Gambatte, minna-san! Adelante, CIO-AMAGE!
Kombanwa Mina-san, this is Seishi here posting on behalf of Gem-sensei about our Nihonggo lessons. Last Saturday May 30, the lessons were canceled due to bad weather condition.
Main problem: We still don’t have a proper venue that’s why we were easily affected by the rain that led us to cancel the lessons. This led us (the officers) to meet last Saturday and discuss our options.
To address the problem, there have been several points:
* Jesse suggested that we have to have a fixed venue.
* Mikare suggested Club Ultima conference rooms for the venue. (PHP250 for the first hour and PHP140 for the succeeding hours)
* These will be discussed after the lessons this coming Saturday June 6, 2009.
The temporary venue for the upcoming class on June 6, 2009 will be Mikare’s house at White Hills Subd., Banawa, CebuCity.
There will be free 2-way transportation provided (Ayala to White Hills and White Hills to Ayala) courtesy by Mikare.
Assembly place: Outside Timezone and Chris sports, AYALA.
Assembly time: 2-3pm
Mina-san, let’s do our best to make this successful. GANBATTE! (^___^)
As for those that are wondering about Ren13, she's currently in Manila at the moment tending to her grandmother. She might be in Cebu within this week though.
